You’ve got a weekend and a car, and you’re dying to get away from the city or humdrum daily life. Luckily, vacays don’t have to be long or expensive to make them count. We’ve made five weekend road-trip itineraries with starting points across Canada, so clear your schedule and get moving.

Alberta: Calgary to Jasper
This road trip offers an overflow of natural beauty for just a tank or two of gas. The drive from Calgary to Banff takes only an hour and a half, and the sight of the approaching mountains is breathtaking. After several hours in the bustling village and a stop at Bow Falls, head down the road to Lake Louise to eat a packed lunch and spend the night. The lake is stunning any time of year and makes the perfect backdrop for an Instagram pic. As you head north on the Columbia Icefields Parkway, stop at the Columbia Icefield to experience the Glacier Adventure. After you’ve had your fill of the cold, drive an hour and a half to Jasper and rent a cabin. Try the Alpine Village Cabin Resort or snag something on Airbnb in any price range.

Ontario: Toronto to Point Pelee National Park and Chatham-Kent
If you’re looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and avoid the traffic heading north to cottage country, this road trip is perfect. Only 3½ hours from Toronto, Point Pelee National Park is on the southernmost tip of Canada. Camp close by and spend your weekend hiking, exploring and biking in the park or visit the cozy town of Chatham-Kent, only an hour away. The Retro Suites Hotel has 32 uniquely styled rooms and features a main staircase that dates back to 1895. Spend the day wandering around the town, and pop into the William Street Caféfor a light lunch or a tasty dessert.

Nova Scotia: Halifax to Annapolis Valley
This road trip may be only a short drive, but upon arriving, you’ll feel like you’re in a completely different world. The apple fields, vineyards and rolling hills are picturesque, and the locals are incredibly friendly. Begin your journey by driving one hour from Halifax to Wolfville, where there’s always some sort of celebration on the go. The Apple Blossom Festival (late May) is one not to be missed. Take a wine tour at the stunning Luckett Vineyards, go apple picking and sample some of the many farmers’ markets. The Stella Rose B&B is one of many bed-and-breakfasts that allow you to unwind in this beautiful Nova Scotian getaway.
World Biosphere Reserve of Charlevoix; Steve Deschênes for Sépaq
Whether you want a romantic getaway or a weekend with the girls, prepare for good food, gorgeous scenery and French history. Start your journey in Trois-Rivières with a photo opportunity in front of the breathtaking Sanctuaire Notre-Dame-du-Cap before driving an hour and a half to Quebec City. Along the way, you should be able to hit some of the spots suggested by the Gourmet Route and enjoy fine French cuisine. Feel free to stay in romantic Old Quebec, spending a night andenjoying a walking tour. When you’re ready to hit the road, pack a baguette and some cheese for the nearly two-hour drive to the World Biosphere Reserve of Charlevoix, where you can immerse yourself in nature for the day before heading back to the city.

British Columbia: Vancouver to Tofino
It’s almost cheating to put Vancouver on our list, as any drive in the region will blow you away. Whether you’re a local or simply a visitor, this six-hour road trip is one for the bucket list. You’ll want to hop on the ferry to Nanaimo at Horseshoe Bay, then follow the Pacific Rim Highway, which will take you in and out of the mountains, showcasing lakes and the beautiful coastline before you hit the rainforest. Make a pit stop in Parksville at Saigon Garden for scrumptious Vietnamese food. Then, make your way to Cathedral Grove in MacMillan Provincial Park, home to many walking trails and impressive Douglas fir trees—some more than 800 years old! Eventually, you’ll hit the surfer town of Tofino, filled with endless cozy shops and sights. Check out Whalers on the Point Guesthouse if you’re looking for a budget-friendly stay.
