Zinc is a trace element essential for cells of the immune system…”

We are told minerals are good for us but do we know why we need them?
We are told that Calcium is good for bones.

Magnesium is also good for bones but we never hear that. Much of the magnesium in our body is stored in our bones.

Magnesium is known as the great relaxer. As many of us eat few green, leafy vegetables, we get little magnesium into our body. Magnesium eases anxiety, cramps, insomnia and lots more.

Sodium is needed in the body but too much can make us ill. It is connected to the water balance in the body and the kidneys. Generally we have too much salt when we eat a of processed food.

Salt is included in canned food and processed food as it helps preserve the food. People with Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) and Adrenal Fatigue (AF) need a lot more salt than most people.

Zinc is known for its benefit to the immune system. Another important way zinc is used in the body is connected to our breathing.

A single atom of zinc is held in place by three amino acids inside an enzyme – carbonic anhydrase, which is one of the fastest enzyme known. It can process over 600,000 carbon dioxide (CO2) molecules every second. It works with haemoglobin which takes oxygen to the cells.

Hemoglobin is the protein molecule in red blood cells that carries oxygen from the lungs to the body’s tissues and returns carbon dioxide from the tissues back to the lungs.rbon Dioxide Connection

When the hemoglobin releases oxygen, this enzyme grabs the carbon dioxide. It travels back to the lung and releases it. Each enzyme lasts about 3 months then needs to be replaced.

When people are ill with chronic illnesses, oxygen can get low in the body. Is it a far stretch to say they need more zinc? Zinc may help replenish the carbonic anhydrous enzyme that is so helpful in the transfer of oxygen and carbon dioxide.
